Jubal Upchurch, born about 1776, fills a 0 – 16 age slot in the home of his father, Richard Upchurch II on the 1790 census of Franklin County, North Carolina.  By the 1800 census, Jubal Upchurch had married and was heading up his own household.  This 1800 census also allows for Jubal’s three-year-old son, Little Berry, and for a one-year-old daughter, whose name has not been determined. Also in the household is a male, age 16 – 26, who most likely Jubal’s brother, Thomas, who was born about 1780.
 
The 1810 census of Franklin County, NC show Jubal Upchurch has added to his family sons Calvin, Steven and a daughter, Frances. Jubal’s presumed brother, Thomas, is no longer in the household. The 1830 census reveals three more children, making eight altogether. The three included a son, name not determined, born about 1810, daughter Charlotte, born about 1812, and a son, John, born about 1814.  Jubal died in Franklin County, NC about 1836.  His widow, Charlotte Pearce Upchurch appears on the 1840 and 1850 census records of Franklin County. At one point in time, Jubal owned over 2000 acres of land in Franklin County.
 
The children and grandchildren of Jubal played out their lives in central NC for the most part and substantial records are available for them. We have yet to identify the daughter born in 1799, who appears in the 1800 and 1810 census.  Jubal’s son, Calvin, died in 1844 at age 41.  His widow promptly remarried and in 1850, we find Calvin’s three sons just to the south in Cumberland County, NC.  Daughter Frances, born 1807, is a challenge.  The question is whether she is the Frances Upchurch who married Blake Baker in 1820.  Or did Blake Barker marry a different Frances – namely Frances (Gay) Upchurch, the widow of Williford Upchurch, a son of James VII?
 
The path of Jubal’s son, Calvin, born about 1814, has also been difficult to document as we have many documents for the several males sharing this name, time, and place occurrences.

1.    JUBAL UPCHURCH was born about 1776 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He died about 1836 in Franklin County. He               married Charlotte Pearce. She was born in 1782 in Franklin County, North Carolina. She died about 1855.

             County, NC. He married Elizabeth Barberry "Betsy" Williams on 01 Oct 1824 in Franklin County, NC. She was born in                   1807 in Franklin Co., NC. She died about 1875.

      3.   STEPHEN UPCHURCH was born about 1804 in Franklin County, NC and died after 1870 in Wake County, NC. He                            married (1) Rebecca Chamblee in 1828 in Franklin County.  She was born about 1800.  Stephen Upchurch married (2)                  Ann Medlin in 1841 in Wake County, NC

      4.   CALVIN UPCHURCH was born in 1806 in Franklin County, NC. He died in 1844 in Franklin Co, NC. He married Agnes                    Young. She was born in 1806 in Harnett County, NC. She died in 1899 in Harnett County, NC. 

      5.   FRANCES UPCHURCH was born about 1807 in Franklin County, NC. She died about 1843. She married Blake Baker on 
            13 Nov 1829 in Wake County, NC. He was born about 1804 in Franklin County, NC. He died on 21 Jan 1863 in Wake       
            County, NC.

            JOHN UPCHURCH was born about 1814 in Franklin County, NC, USA. He died in 1895.

      6.  CHARLOTTE UPCHURCH was born about 1815 in North Carolina. She died in 1904. She married John C. Sanders on 11               Jun 1833 in Franklin County, NC. He was born about 1811 in NC.

                          MARTHA M. UPCHURCH was born about 1829 in Franklin County, NC, USA. She died in 1924.

                  7.     MARY A. UPCHURCH was born in Feb 1834 in Franklin County, NC. She died on 18 Mar 1922 in Franklin County.                            She married John "Sidney" Perry on 12 Dec 1854 in Franklin, NC, USA. He was born in 1835 in Franklin County,                              NC, USA. He died before 1870.

                  8.    ELIZABETH UPCHURCH was born about 1839 in Franklin County, NC. She died in 1929. She married James                                     Bolton on 28 Aug 1863 in Franklin County, NC. He was born about 1838. He died on 07 Dec 1863 in Richmond,                             Henrico County, VA, USA.

                         CALVIN UPCHURCH and or NATHAN E. UPCHURCH was born about 1832.

                         LUCINDA UPCHURCH was born about 1835.
                      
                         CHARLOTTE UPCHURCH was born about 1837. She married Jack Barham Phillips in 1852 in Franklin County , NC.
                         He was born in 1829 and died some time after 1850.

                13.    BRYANT UPCHURCH was born about 1858 in Wake County, NC and died 28 Jan 1935 in Wake County. He                                        married Sarah Florence Kirk.

                14.    REBECCA JANE UPCHURCH was born 1859 in Wake County, NC and died 17 Jan 1853 in Wake County. She                                      married William H Ray.  He was born about 1858 and died about 1915.
